he did it!
matt huntington beach, ca may 2011
he moved in to the dorms yesterday.

this week is orientation, and class officially starts monday.

he is set.

ive observed him the last few months, and when once i saw a boy, now before me stands a man, humbly ready to face the world.

he knows his resources:  God, me, our family, his grandfather, his father, and his friends.  in that order.

he knows what he wants to do:  be of service.  in any capacity.

he knows his mind, and i envy that he is smarter about himself and the world than i was at his age.

yet, dbm said that i am a success.  i take credit, but i share it with the Almighty who has always guided us and loved us and gave us abundance.

it wasnt easy.  there were times when the kid was a monster, but i pray i was graceful during that phase, though i know i wasnt.

my early adult years was spent on raising a man who i am proud of:  spiritual, artistic, athletic, thoughtful, generous, loving, funny, independent.

he teaches me patience.  he teaches me how truly wonderful it is to give rather than receive.

because of him, i learned to pray for another, and my prayers were and are constantly answered.

last night, my father texted me about missing him and being lonely since he no longer lives at home.  i had to laugh.  the boy is only 45 minutes away, and i havent felt lonely because i was alone in such a long time.

truth be told, im lonely when im involved with someone who doesnt avail himself to me.  but that hasnt been the case for years.

the next four years will be whirlwind and very important.  my role has changed as of yesterday.  i am still his mother, but now, i guide him.  i no longer tell him what to do.

im excited by the heart and soul and mind of this child.  i know God has great plans for him.

i know he will be used fruitfully.

and i bow down to the Divine in gratitude and in humility.

the photo above was taken without his knowledge.  im sure he knew then that victory is his to claim.
